Margot Jewell

ESM Co-founder, Artistic Advisor and SAA Teacher Trainer

For over 40 years Margot Jewell has enjoyed working with young people and their families, first at the Hamilton Suzuki School where she taught violin and was also the director, and now at Etobicoke Suzuki Music (ESM) which she co-founded in 1982.

Margot has a Bachelor of Music Education from McMaster University and an ARCT from the Royal Conservatory of Music (RCM). She obtained her Suzuki teacher training in Canada, the United States, France, and Japan.

Margot has performed in groups such as the National Youth Orchestra, the Hamilton Philharmonic, Symphony Niagara, the Te Deum Orchestra, and the Aradia Ensemble, as well as many freelance groups.

As a music festival adjudicator and a RCM examiner, Margot enjoys working with children across Canada, from Whitehorse, Yukon to Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island. She is presently the Specialist String Examiner for the RCM. She was a reviewer for the RCM 2013 Violin syllabus.

In the summers, Margot enjoys teaching students and teachers at Suzuki Summer Institutes. She is a registered Suzuki Violin Teacher Trainer with the Suzuki Association of the Americas (SAA).

Margot has served on the Board and has done committee work for both the Suzuki Association of Ontario (SAO) and the SAA. Her articles have been published in the SAO Newsletter and the American Suzuki Journal.

Margot is mother to two young adults who were Suzuki students.
